And their off…..! The first outdoor festival of the year beckons for this reviewer at least next Bank Holiday weekend (4th-6th May). What better place to start than the inaugural Nuts In May festival, taking place in the beautiful surroundings of Cumbria in the northern corner of England near Workington.

The festival is the brainchild of some of the lovely people behind Solfest – one of the most highly regarded and somewhat special festivals in the country (certainly from this reviewer’s perspective!).

You can expect nearly one hundred artists over three days across six stages, and, as the festival is held in May in the UK, two stages are outdoor whilst four are covered! The famous Weirdigans Café area is geared for 24 hour opening to offer a good time day or night throughout the festival too. The site is set in a lovely woodland arena, providing a natural amphitheatre for a number of the stages, and offers the same high quality of amenities and attention to detail that those of you lucky enough to have experienced festivals at their best will already appreciate. The organisers of this event have that pedigree and experience.

The line-up features everything from Martin Turner’s Wishbone Ash to Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick, through to Emma’s Imagination and Mad Dog Mccrea. You can also expect reggae and soul, funk, and dance tent scenes plus open mic acoustic sets and lots lots more good stuff.  The music will be reinforced by some great kid’s entertainment in their dedicated area, along with first class food and drink; locally sourced of course.

Sit down for this bit – it’s only £34. Yep thirty four pounds…. And that includes free camping (only an extra £5 per vehicle parking if you don’t arrive by public transport or two wheels). Expect the bars to offer first class ales at pub prices too. Talk about ‘Northern Value!’

Festivals For All will be in attendance and we are all a giddy!

Nuts In May is held over the bank holiday weekend 4th-6th May near Workington Cumbria.
