Sean McLoughlin, Village Green Event Director said, “With a programme that is all about celebrating talent and diversity, Nitin really is the icing on the cake. Described as a cultural pioneer and latter-day Renaissance man, Nitin has performed with the world’s leading orchestras, and collaborated with the likes of Paul McCartney, Sting, Brian Eno, Sinead O’Connor, Jeff Beck, Shakira, Will Young, Joss Stone, Ellie Goulding, Horace Andy, Cirque Du Soleil, Akram Khan, Deepa Mehta, Mira Nair, Nelson Mandela and John Hurt. His show, Nitin Spins the Globe, is currently on BBC Radio Two. He has an extensive international following and a truly amazing reputation so we are incredibly lucky to have him here in Southend headlining our local festival.”

Sawhney has released 9 studio albums, each garnering critical acclaim and received no less than 17 major national awards. Nitin’s forthcoming tenth studio album is entitled ‘DYSTOPIAN DREAM’ and will be released later in 2015. He most recently performed sell-out shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall where he showcased tracks from Dystopian Dream. At the moment, in 2015 he will be performing only one other outdoor gig in Regents Park, London. He added Southend to his shows this year, because the ethos of the multi-arts festival chimes with him.

Said Nitin, “Metal have created a really exciting looking, boutique festival. It’s a brilliant mix of the local and the international - of literature, art and music – all presented in an urban park in Southend, literally on the doorstep of a diverse audience of people of all ages and from all walks of life. It’s accessible and affordable with a cool line up.”

Other musical highlights include local legend Snowboy and the Latin Section; Hollie Cook, daughter of Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook; break-through band, Asylums; Roland Gift of Fine Young Cannibals and platinum-selling 2-tone veterans, The Selecter. All of which adds up to Village Green being one of the best value festivals in the UK this summer.

Tickets to Village Green remain at the same level as last year at FREE for 10 years and under; £5 for 11-17 year olds and £10 for an adult ticket.

Metal have also set aside 500 FREE tickets for low income families and individuals in Southend. These can be secured with the council through their Southend Advantage Card scheme. Click here for more details.
