Takedown Festival 2014 took place at Southampton University in March, one of the bands we were lucky enough to catch up with for an interview was Black Futures

So, you guys changed you name last year - you were Sub Source and you're now Black futures, what prompted that change?

Stu (Bass): We just hated the last name (confirmed by chuckling band mates) ...and we'd had it for ages as well. The new material we were writing at the time was taking on a new direction and we didn't want people to cast aspersions just because they saw the name Sub Source so we thought we'd come back with something new. A few people couldn't find us because we were now an unknown band, but hopefully now it's all good.

You guys did some pretty cool shows in December last year with The Prodigy up in Manchester at 'The Warehouse Project', how was that?

Paul (Guitar): It was a great experience for us - it was a real rush actually as it was our first show (as Black Futures) and we had about two weeks to get ourselves together. But it was fun, the guys (Prodigy) were great, the crowd were awesome...

Stu: ...they were out of their minds - a few lips being chewed and a lot of hugging, but it makes for a friendly atmosphere!

Recently you had your latest single "Chemical" feature on a trailer for up and coming game "World of Speed" which itself has clocked up around 140,000 views on YouTube, how does that feel?

Stu: It's awesome! Unfortunately they're not all unique hits based on it being a Black Futures track, but it means that that many people have heard one of our tunes so it’s pretty good exposure for us also - however we released our own video for it last year as our first single.

Can we expect an album sometime soon?

Stu: Yeah, we're working on things at the moment, writing and hopefully get it out as soon as we can - but we're only doing a few select shows, this being one - we know the guys from the festival and they were really into Sub Source when we were here last year so we tough we'd come back - and the line-up is great.

Are you planning on doing any festivals later this year?

Paul:  Sure, we're doing a few we can't announce just yet but we're going to be at Alt-Fest in Kettering where Marilyn Manson's headlining.

Stu: I think we're doing the post-Manson set so that's going to be wicked. It looks like a great festival, and the amount of effort they put in to get the sponsorship is amazing-they worked so hard so power to them! They also run some fetish nights in London and we're going along to one at the end of April to warm up the crowd which will be fun - but we're adding a few others which you'll able to find on our Facebook.

...and last but not least guys, who are you looking forward to seeing today?

Collectively: Hactivist, Feed the Rhino, Jamie Lenman, Heart of a Coward, Turbowolf, Black Spiders & Funeral for a Friend.
