The marvellous Galtres festival returns to North Yorkshire this weekend (24th-26th August).

In an age where a number of festivals struggle for a real identity and become little more than ‘bands in a field with camping’, Galtres simply oozes character. There is a vibe and a sense of creativity here that you simply don’t find at many other events irrespective of size. Galtres is genuinely so much more than just another music festival.

The Galtres Festival is different. Designed from the bottom up as a truly multi faceted event incorporating first class Beer, Cider, Food, Arts Events and general good fun – this is a festival focussed on more than just excellent music. Now in its eight year, Galtres remains true to its roots. Originally conceived as a beer festival celebrating all that’s good about Yorkshire ales, the festival has expanded its horizons to offer an equally impressive array of complementary food, music, and entertainment. Motivated by a strong charity ethos and a desire to promote local produce, be that the bands, the drink, the catering, and the arts events, this festival really does pay homage to the concept of local sourcing and all the green benefits that delivers.

With over 100 different beers, ales, and ciders available over a number of dedicated marquees locally sourced from Yorkshire, plus the addition in 2012 of a expanded wine bar, and local food outlets providing a diverse range of multi ethnic offerings, the event provides a stunning food and drink experience in its own right before other entertainment is even considered.

Galtres has everything from Jousting tournaments, to first class dedicated family areas, to a reinterpretation of the York Mystery Plays, and even a Dragon’s Ball (!); and that’s just for starters.

The FFA reviewer at Galtres 2011 simply loved it – read the review HERE.

Don’t be fooled into thinking this truly multi-threaded arts celebration skimps on the music; once again the 2012 line-up hosts some big hitters such as Seth Lakeman, Billy Bragg, Ash, Guillemots, The Virginmarys, Adam Ant + The Good, The Bad & the Lovely Posse , David Ward MacLean, Hope & Social, Jonny & The Rizlas, David Ward MacLean, and Jon Gomm, amongst a packed line-up!

As just a small snippet of the imagination and creativity of this festival; FFA can’t wait for the Jon Martyn Solid Air album tribute theme running through the weekend – check it out HERE.

Festivals For All will be reporting from Galtres itself over the weekend. ….We can’t wait!
