Franz Ferdinand have announced live on Steve Lamacqs show tonight that they are giving BBC Radio 6 Music listeners an amazing opportunity to choose part of the set list that they will perform at the first ever 6 Music Festival on Saturday 1 March.

6 Music Festival 2014

In an unprecedented move for the band, the audience will have the opportunity to vote at bbc.co.uk/6music for the song they would most like to see them perform live. They can select from a list of 15 singles, album tracks and B sides which span the band’s four album career. The six songs that receive the most votes will be the opening six songs to be played by the band when they perform at the 6 Music Festival on the 1st March. The set list vote will be announced during Steve Lamacq’s 6 Music show on Monday 3rd February (4-7pm) and will run until 7pm on Monday 10th February. The results won’t be revealed until Franz Ferdinand perform at the Festival, so listeners will have to tune in 6 Music’s coverage of the event to find out if their favourite track made the cut.

Alex Kapranos, Bob Hardy, Nick McCarthy and Paul Thomson make up Franz Ferdinand.  The band achieved success when their first, eponymously titled, album reached No. 3 in the UK album chart and led to three top 10 hits, including Take Me Out, in the singles chart. NME named it their Album of the Year. The band went on to win the 2004 Mercury Music Prize, plus two BRIT Awards in 2005 for Best British Group and Best British Rock Act. They have released three further albums, their most recent last year, Right Thoughts Right Words Right Action, debuted at No. 6 in the UK album chart and No. 1 in the UK Indie chart.

Alex Kapranos, lead vocals and guitar Franz Ferdinand, said: “We've never let the fans choose the set list before. It wasn't my idea. Could be a total disaster. Could be amazing. Let's find out.”

Steve Lamacq, 6 Music DJ said: “BBC Radio 6 Music is known for giving its listeners the music that they want to hear so allowing the fans to have their say in selecting Franz Ferdinand’s set list is totally in keeping with the ethos of the station.”
