One of the biggest Rock bands on the planet, the Foo Fighters, are taking BBC Four viewers on an exploration of America’s musical identity this October, with the UK’s first exclusive broadcast of the band’s epic Sonic Highways series.

To commemorate their 20th anniversary, the Foo Fighters have documented the recording odyssey of their upcoming eighth studio album of the same name. The series will start on BBC Four on Sunday 26 October (time tbc).

Episodes one and two will broadcast on BBC Four, episodes three to six will be on the BBC iPlayer and the final two episodes will broadcast on BBC Four.

Described by Grohl as a love letter to the history of American music, with eight cities, eight episodes and eight songs, Sonic Highways is not only the making of their most ambitious album to date, it is a musical map of America. Each episode culminates with the band performing the track they created in each of the eight cities.
Directed by Grohl, the episodes chronicle the writing and recording of a song for the album of the same name, each in a different American musical landmark - Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Seattle, Washington, D.C. - capturing the band tapping into the musical heritage and history of each location, and featuring appearances from local legends who define the musical identity of those cities.

BBC Four Channel Editor, Cassian Harrison, says:

“BBC Four is renowned for its music programming and I am delighted we have acquired this innovative series that takes viewers into the very roots of popular music, in an epic nationwide odyssey.”

Every city has a sound and every sound has a story. Explore eight of those cities on Sonic Highways this October.
