The Barclaycard Mercury Prize '2014 Albums of the Year' will be revealed at 5.30pm on Wednesday 10 September 2014. The announcement, made by presenter and broadcaster Alice Levine, will be hosted by The Hospital Club in Covent Garden.

Dedicated television coverage of the event will be broadcast on Channel 4 at 12.05am on the night of Thursday 11 September. The 30-minute Albums of the Year Launch programme will be presented by Nick Grimshaw and feature live performances and interviews with the shortlisted artists.

The Barclaycard Mercury Prize recognises and celebrates music in the UK and has a reputation for highlighting both new talent and more established bands and artists. The shortlist of 12 'Albums of the Year' is chosen by an independent judging panel and provides a snapshot of the year in music, recognising artistic achievement across a range of music genres. Albums by British and Irish artists with a UK release date between Tuesday 10 September 2013 and Monday 8 September 2014 (inclusive) are eligible for the 2014 Prize.

The members of the 2014 judging panel are: Simon Frith (Chairman) - Author and Music Writer, Professor of Music, Edinburgh University; Annie Mac - DJ and broadcaster; Elisa Bray - Music Editor, The Independent; Obaro Ejimiwe (aka Ghostpoet) - Musician and songwriter; Greg Cochrane - Editor, NME.com; Jeff Smith - Head of Music, 6Music/Radio 2; John Kennedy - Presenter, 'X-Posure', Xfm; Kat Morris - Festival Director, The Great Escape; Kate Mossman - Music Writer and Broadcaster; Arts Editor, New Statesman; Lianne La Havas - Musician and songwriter; Mike Flynn - Music Writer; Deputy Editor Jazzwise and Nick Luscombe - DJ and broadcaster; founder 'Musicity'.

The overall winner of the 2014 Prize will be decided and announced at the Barclaycard Mercury Prize Awards Show at the Roundhouse on Wednesday 29 October.
